Human Factors Challenges

Integrating Maintenance and Human Factors in Modern Aviation.

The challenges experienced in aviation depends on how
well a company is structured and regardless of size, companies apply all kinds of programs to help manage human error. While human errors can be caused by a lack of experience, knowledge and understanding of the material or system, it could be a direct product of fatigue, stress and other outside distractions that affect communication, decision making affecting technical skills and impacting aviation efficiency.

Human Factors have been a topic for years and
statistics continue to support that human factors directly caused and contribute with the majority of aviation accidents (AMTH, 2018). Companies continue to modify and implement programs to mitigate human error but, accidents are a never ending chain. Modern aviation have focused primarily of economic growth and efficiency this combined with globalization impacts directly labor by increasing workload and decreasing man power. There are about twelve Human Factors for Aircraft Maintenance proficiency (AMTH, 2018). In addition, these indemnified factors are layout in programs and training but is of great importance to know that in order to work efficiently and safely is the understanding and interaction between work teams, self-assessment and communication to prevent or manage them proactively in the future.

In a company regardless of size, there are more
similarities than differences: Safety, client experience and sustainability are the core of a company to continue aloft in business. Airlines industries are govern by more strict regulations and maintenance schedules, their biggest challenge is to meet timelines, these requires an organized management, safe work environment and understanding of the operating procedures to comply with the time lines. While this process is emended in every company that holds an operating certificate errors still occur due to fatigue and stress. The human body reacts differently to outside distractors and our brain receptors translate these into happiness, motivation, stress etc. creating a bigger problem which is fatigue. Since companies cannot evaluate the psychology of each individual to mitigate stress and prevent fatigue, they based their efforts on programs which many of them are Computer Based Programs (CBT) that could possibly be more stressful. I believe that companies nowadays have focus of meeting timelines, economic growth and economic charts analysis leaving Human Factors Training aside changing completely the philosophy of a company and complying with regulations with minimal or standard training. Is disappointing to adjust a regulation or emphasized in additional human factors training once an accident had happen or a error has been made.
